11 Artists you are not listening to – why? | Yinka Aresa

I recently discovered a new band that are now my favorite band in the world. But the thing is that they are so talented it’s gross and they have been around for forever so how did I not know about them? I don’t want this to happen to anyone one else so I decided to make a list of artists you should start listening to immediately because there are so much great music out there that are over shadowed by less than music.

THE FAMILY CREST

The Family Crest is an American orchestral indie rock band based in San Francisco. The band is made up of seven core members and several hundred additional members who actively participate in recordings, live performances, and other creative projects. They are literally a family. They are the band you listen to when you need to feel inspired or hyped up their sound is so immense and impressive…. Just check them out and be amazed.

MISTERWIVES

Being a teenager I have a lot of dramatic moments and in those moments I always wondered what kind of song MTV would play in the background and my answer was Misterwives an American indie pop band based in New York City. They are very loud, dramatic, excited and fun just like the teenage experience.

BØRNS

The man with the voice of an angel. The falsetto to wake the dead. He is a mystic, a man of many wonders as is his music. He is weird and he lives for it, his motto the world be damned. The singer song writer’s music is one you listen to when you need to just lose yourself and just be. Check out his new Album, Blue Madonna

MAGGIE ROGERS

It’s very difficult to describe this lady and her brilliant talent because she is just so different and talented that she can be compared to no one. Each person who listens to her has a unique experience so why don’t you have yours today.

WILL JOSEPH COOK

No, not the 6th prime minster of Australia. He is the residential cool kid from the UK. His music is FUN and young. His music is a comforting, flab-free sugar pop. That’s all there is to say about him as well as the fact that he is even more amazing live and follow him on twitter he’s funny.

LUPE FIASCO

AKA Wasalu Muhammad Jaco his raps and lyrics are stories. Stories that speak to you in a very profound way. His music is focused, thoughtful and satisfying.

ANGEL HAZE

She is so underrated and every time I think about this tragedy I am angered because she has so much to say and she is actually talented. Her raps are authentic and pure, she doesn’t have any gimmicks she is just her self, vulnerable and authentic.

OH WONDER

This British duo wrote one of the best albums of 2015 in my opinion. They wrote this album in one year by releasing a single each month and each single they released was just better than the last. Their music is so simple and never fails to put a smile on your face. On those days when school just seems to be doing too much I put my earphones in and escape with oh wonder. Listen to their new album, Ultra-life.

BURNA BOY

Is he Nigerian? Is he Jamaican? Well, he is Nigerian and he is great. Just like Maggie, his music is an niche taste. So, I live it up to you to fall in love with his music.

DAGNY

For those days when you just need to have fun and jump on hours on all the beds in the house or for those exeats when you just need to be basic and blast music out, Dagny is your Lady. Her electric pop is exciting and electric.

LÉON

Nobody does indie pop better than her, nobody do vulnerability better than her and sometimes when you listen to music you actually want to be listening to lyrics that reaches your soul she has got you covered.
