Looking back on Carols at St Margaret’s | Rhiana Thomas

Last Monday guests flocked to st Margarets church for an evening of Christmas cheer. I was in the choir, right in the midst of the action and I must say I will look back on that evening fondly for a long time.

Standing among our many talented singers and was an almost religious experience, well as close as I can get to one being an atheist, I find it likely that the audience felt similarly, sitting there in a church steeped in time and history and enjoying the rich sound of ‘A Fantasia on Christmas Carols’ wash over them.

The Christmas carol service set the mood for December. I can’t say that assessment week has been very Christmassy, and I’m sure the year 13s haven’t been feeling the Christmas spirit among their mock exams. Even though the day has passed we ever need to remind ourselves that Christmas is coming then ill certainly look back to the carol service.

So how did the service put us in the Christmas mood, well the audience was treated to several lovely Christmas themed readings from the students, wonderful songs from the choir (although I may be biased) and most entertainingly some solo performances from brave Harris Westminster students. I applaud the people who fought their nerves to get up to sing and play instruments for us, it was a real treat.

I look forward to another similar event next year but in the meantime… Merry Christmas everyone and remember that the holiday is coming. We can make it through these last few days.
